End of June 1941
In the end of June 1941, the most extensive pogroms against the Jews in Lithuania were organized and carried out in Vilijampolė – the suburb of Kaunas. At the same time the killings were carried out by Lithuanian squads commanded by the Gestapo (so-called partisans – inmates released from Soviet prisons and criminal elements). Several hundreds or maybe even several thousands Jews, including women and children, may have been killed during the pogroms.
