IGNAS ŠEPETYS

During the German occupation, Ignas Šepetys maintained connections with members of the anti-fascist resistance organization in the Kaunas Ghetto. From March 1943 to April 1944, working as a driver, he transported numerous people from the Kaunas Ghetto and the city to the woods, helping them join partisan groups. “Assigned tasks by the organization, Šepetys I. carried out boldly and honestly, regardless of the danger looming over him,” wrote Moisiejus Muselis, one of those saved and the leader of the squad in the Kaunas Ghetto anti-fascist resistance organization.
Among those saved were 11 people transported to hiding place of Mykolas Šimelis, in the Strošiūnai forest: Moshe Musel with his wife Polia; Meyer Koren with two sons Moshe-Eize and Benjamin, daughter Liuba, wife's sister Michle Levin, and brother Tanchum Koren with his wife Judith; Alter Aranovsky with his wife Etel.

In 1994, Ignas Šepetys was awarded the Life Saviour’s Cross.
