Chiune Sempo Sugihara

When at the end of the summer of 1940 the Soviets closed the Japanese Consulate in Kaunas, Ch. Sugihara continued his diplomatic career in other countries. At first, he was appointed to Konigsberg (present Kaliningrad). The last country of his diplomatic residence was Romania.

Ch. Sugihara’s family stayed with him during all of the diplomatic missions. In 1940 in Kaunas, the Sugihara family had their third son Haruki, and the fourth one, Nobuki Sugihara, was born in Japan in 1949. He finished his studies in the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
