Looking for the Past
The edge of Vilnius. Passing the slope
Empty, sandy roads Run to Juodasis Šilas,
To Paneriai...
Quietly and bitterly
My glance is aiming for the future,
Bringing the silent justice.
This is our room: the holes in the floor,
The place where the bed used to stand...
The oil lamp in the corner is glowing quietly
Casting the shadow from the copper crucifix.
And myself, suddenly unburdened after so many years,
Standing silently in front of this shadow
And remembering the garden, the spring, the blossoms!..
Two White Birds that are gone,
Whose love turned darkness into the Light!
