Life Saviour's Cross Award

Each September, on the Day of the Remembrance of the Victims of the Genocide of Lithuanian Jews, Lithuanian citizens, who saved Jewish people from the Nazi genocide during World War II are awarded Life Saviour's Crosses in the Presidential Palace of the President of the Republic of Lithuania.
Unfortunately, more than 70 years after the World War II, many rescuers of the Jews are awarded posthumously, therefore the awards are presented by the President of the Republic of Lithuania to their children and grandchildren. They are the ones to remember the noble deeds of their parents and grandparents.
Since Lithuania has regained independence, 1663 rescuers of Jews were awarded the Lithuanian State award – Life Saviour's Cross between 1992 and 2023 following the recommendation of the Vilna Gaon Museum of Jewish History, including workers, farmers, clerks, teachers and priests who risked their lives and the lives of their families during the German occupation and saved many lives of their neighbours, friends, acquaintances and strangers alike.
